2018 to 2024 Toyota Camry 2.5L A25A-FKS oil and filter change

Start the Camry and let it idle for two or three minutes to thin the oil, then shut it off and let it sit for 10 minutes so the oil drains back to the pan. Warm oil flows out clean. Cold oil clings to every internal surface and takes twice as long.

Slide a floor jack under the front subframe crossmember, right in the center, and lift the front until you can get jack stands under the pinch weld pucks. The A25A car is low, and there is no way to reach the drain plug without lifting it. Rock the car at the fender to confirm the stands are settled before you go under.

The 18+ Camry has a full plastic underbody tray covering the oil pan. It is held on with a mix of 10mm bolts and plastic push rivets. Pop the rivets with a small pick and pull the pan down. Bag the hardware so you do not lose anything.

Take off the yellow oil fill cap on the valve cover to vent the crankcase. The pan drains faster and cleaner with the cap off.

Position the drain pan under the oil pan drain plug on the passenger side. Break the 14mm plug loose with the ratchet, then finger it out the last few turns. Push inward on the plug as you unthread it so the oil does not run down your wrist.

The A25A-FKS uses a cartridge oil filter in a black plastic housing on the front of the block, right side up, tucked between the exhaust manifold and the cross member. Wipe the top of the cap so no grit falls into the housing when you open it.

Fit the 64mm 14 flute cap wrench over the plastic cap and unscrew counter-clockwise. Loosen it about one full turn, then wait 30 seconds so the residual oil in the housing drains down through the internal port to the pan. Cracking the cap fast will dump oil straight down onto the subframe.

Once the housing has drained, unscrew the cap the rest of the way and lift the old cartridge out with it. The kit includes two new O rings, a large one for the cap and a small one for the internal drain valve stem. Pull both old rings off, wipe the cap grooves clean, and roll the new rings into place with a light film of fresh oil.

Snap the new cartridge onto the cap end, drop the assembly back into the housing, and thread the cap in by hand. Once it seats, snug it with the cap wrench. Please check your service manual, but the torque spec on the plastic filter cap is 18 ft lbs (25 Nm).

Slip a fresh crush gasket onto the drain plug and thread it back into the pan by hand. Do this by hand. The Camry oil pan is aluminum and will strip if you cross the thread with a ratchet. Please check your service manual, but the torque spec on the drain plug is 30 ft lbs (40 Nm).

Bolt the plastic underbody tray back up. Line up the front edge first, then push the rivets in around the perimeter. Do not skip any of them. That pan is what keeps the engine bay clean and the wind noise down at freeway speed.

Pour 4 quarts of 0W-16 into the fill neck, wait a minute for it to settle, then start the car. The oil pressure light should go out inside three seconds. If it stays on, shut it off immediately and check the filter cap and drain plug for leaks.

Let it idle for one minute, shut it off, wait five minutes, then pull the dipstick and wipe it clean. Reinsert, pull it again, and read the level. Top up to the upper hash.

Turn the key to on without starting, cycle the trip meter to ODO, shut off, hold the trip meter reset button while turning the key back to on, and keep it held until the MAINT REQD light finishes flashing. Menu path varies by trim, so please check your owner manual for your car if this sequence does not clear it.
